About me, Genni Lib.

I'm a mixed media artist and art educator based in Beaufort, SC. I’m usually in the studio with Olivia Dean or my two young kids. If I’m not there, I’m knee deep dirt in my backyard garden, collecting shark teeth at The Sands, on a treasure hunt at a local vintage shop, or on a deck with a good margarita.

As an artist, a teacher and a parent, it’s my goal to give permission to myself and others to slow down, speak from the heart, and make something beautiful.

on creativity

I believe creativity is a practice, not a talent. Everyone has it - we just forget to use it.

ON MAKING ART

It’s my goal to practice art in a way that reminds others of its importance. In our culture, we know the benefits of making art in kindergartens and retirement homes - but we are asked to forget it in middle adulthood. Perhaps, when we need it the most.

ON Other Artists

My favorite artists are Georgia O’Keefe, Maira Kalman, Claude Monet and kindergarteners. They each celebrate color, embrace imperfection, and are brutally observant.

My background

As a child, I studied under nature, my grandfather (a sculptor), LeVar Burton, Ramona (of Ramona + Beezus), Mrs. Frizzle and curiosity.

In young adulthood, I graduated with a B.A. in Advertising and Minor in Art History from Southern Methodist University (2012 | Dallas, TX).

After 15 years enjoying the creativity found in marketing and communications, I recently returned to my first love, art.
